Week 6 Preview (Javion's Edition)

Week 5 is past us and Week 6 is nearly here already! So far every week has yet to underwhelm so expect more excitement to come! Let’s get into this breakdown of our Week 6 matchups!

Despite our scheduling malfunctions in recent weeks, the WoodPeckers and Titans are set to lead-off Week 6. The WoodPeckers coming off a nail-biting victory against the Lanc Show look to keep the wood good (no diddy) against the Titans this week. Their game plan should be self-explanatory. Despite Danny Bomberger struggling from three last week, if he is back again and there at full force, him helping perimeter shooting and opening up the offense for Devin helps. They need to close out better for future reference as well. If the Titans are at full strength, they are the type of team to capitalize against a team that struggles to slam the door. The Titans however may not be all the way there mentally after back to back losses but, if they are at full strength, they should just be getting back to the basics. Take advantage of Chase’s perimeter ability as well as Ant's size. They're gonna need at least a half decent performance from Johnny again off the bench to keep up with the Peckers who can score nearly from top to bottom on their roster.

The Huskies and Gremlins are scheduled to battle in our 5 o’clock game and we probably won’t expect much. The Huskies have played fairly well through 5 weeks and have certainly solidified themselves as  contenders. The Gremlins on the other hand, are still looking for their first win and it’s not getting any easier with their strength of schedule in the closing weeks of the season. The Huskies won’t really have to have a similar performance from last week because of the Gremlins leading the league in points given up. The Gremlins at this point have shown the league that they just want to have fun. It doesn’t seem like they have the chemistry nor the discipline as a team to compete at a contending level. Gremlins have Andrew Williams coming back this week if that makes a difference offensively but if they come out on top, it’ll be a shocker to all of us.

The Bullies and Tropics who are scheduled to be next should be a similar scenario. The Bullies have proven to be a top team in this league and arguably are the best full fledged. The Tropics however showed flashes in their new John-John era and despite losing, this team felt more alive than before in my opinion. Healthy or not, realistically I don’t see how the Tropics have a chance with the amount of star power on this Bullies squad. The Tropics need similar offensive production and defense will be their biggest challenge. Getting the crowd on their side would help but the Bullies are indeed the villains so it might not impact the game. Bullies game plan is self-explanatory, defense and momentum that turns into offense has been their identity.

The CherryPickers and Lanc Show should be a good one judging off last week’s performances from both. The Pickers new era with Tyler Crespo has just begun and much like the Tropics, having a new face seemed to change the dynamic of their team. The Lanc Show will have a tough task on their hands with this arising Pickers team. Ajani Simmons on our Week 5 “Sport Court Report” confidently summed up last week’s dramatic loss and seemed calm and faithful in himself and his team. The Pickers however will need more offensive contributors. Tyler scoring 30 is fine but it’s just not gonna happen every week so having insurance like “Choopy”, KJ Brownlee and more. The Lanc Show will need their stars in Ajani and Nasir to show up. They felt almost nonexistent offensively last week which will happen but for them, I’m sure they’d hope it’s not on a consistent basis.

The Dragons and 8 Balls more than likely will not be our prime time game as they are scheduled considering our recent malfunctions. If they are, it should be better than expected. The Dragons cannot afford to have a performance like last week scoring only 51 points and giving up 81. Getting open wasn’t their conflict, they just couldn’t get anything to drop. This will have to change especially for guys like E.T, Kevin Roldan, and Ricky Cruz after shooting 8% from the field. Even giving up less than 81 points will be a struggle with how dominant the 8 Balls have been offensively in recent weeks. The 8 Balls though will need to keep their offense orchestrated through their dynamic duo in Jason Kunzelman and Julian Collazo. With these two on the court at the same time, defense hasn’t been an issue because they usually drive their team to out score anyway so their game plan should be simple and business as usual prioritizing the amount of transition buckets they get per game as well.
